The programme has a total funding pot of £12,000 worth of free legal advice.
There will be three prizes. The first prize is £7,000 worth of legal fees. The second prize is £3,000 worth of legal fees. The third prize is £2,000 worth of legal fees.
Extended Description
The Bootlaw Competition is provided by Bootlaw, which is a free 'boot camp' for emerging technology, internet and digital professionals who want to learn more about the legal issues they face. The promoter of the competition is Pinsent Masons LLP.
Bootlaw is a business plan contest offering free legal advice to emerging technology, internet and digital professionals.
Entrants are asked to submit a two page business plan which will be judged on:
- the innovation and novelty of the business model;
- the size of the potential market;
- the skill set of the management team;
- the potential for protection of any intellectual property rights; and
- future financial performance and the use of any venture capital funding.

Key Criteria
The scheme invites applications from emerging technology, internet and digital professionals in the UK who want to learn more about the legal issues they face.
Competition entrants must either be an existing client of the promoter (Pinsent Masons LLP) or be capable of satisfying all requirements of the promoter in order to become a client (including compliance with all UK money laundering regulations).
Eligible Expenditure
The support provided will help the winners with setting up new companies, negotiating contracts and gaining investment.
All prizes must be credited against fees incurred for legal advice provided by the promoter.
Match Funding Restrictions
Match funding is not a stipulated requirement.
Restrictions
Although there are no specific exclusions cited, those wishing to apply are advised to liaise with the sponsor in the first instance to discuss eligibility.
Application Procedure
Entrants are required to visit the Bootlaw website and submit a business plan to the following email address: bootlawcomp@pinsentmasons.com. This email address has been established only for the submission of business plans. The promoter will not respond to any questions or requests for further information sent to this email address.
The winning business plans will be those which are most likely to raise venture capital funding, in the opinion of the panel of judges, during the 12 month period from the date that the winner was notified of the result of the competition.
Winners will be notified by email on 30 September 2012.
