23/07/2012 - Wellcome Trust Announces Final Call for Translation Awards

The Wellcome Trust Translation Awards (TA) are response-mode funding designed to bridge the funding gap in the commercialisation of new technologies in the biochemical area.

Funding is available for the directly incurred costs of the research project. Directly incurred costs are actual costs that are explicitly identifiable as arising from the conduct of a project, such as staff salaries, equipment, materials and travel. Providing it is adequately justified, modest equipment purchase and maintenance costs may also be included. These costs are charged as the cash value actually spent and are supported by an auditable record.

Projects covering any aspect of technology development from a range of disciplines - including physical, computational and life sciences - will be considered. Projects must address an unmet need in healthcare or in applied medical research, offer a potential new solution, and have a realistic expectation that the innovation will be developed further by the market.

Eligible institutions are: not-for-profit research institutions, including those funded by the Medical Research Council, Cancer Research UK, and Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, in the UK; and commercial companies that meet the Trust's charitable objectives through programme-related investment (PRI). UK organisations may contract or collaborate with overseas organisations.

The final 2012 Call for preliminary applications is 27 August 2012.
